Recent Events: From the Brink of War to a Ceasefire in Just Four Days

India and Pakistan recently came to the brink of war, only for a ceasefire to be announced within four days. What really happened, and how should we, as ordinary citizens, make sense of this? Let’s dive in!

The events unfolded rapidly. Tensions escalated at the India-Pakistan border, sparking fears of an all-out war. But due to international pressure, a ceasefire was declared in just four days. However, behind this ceasefire lie complex international politics, hidden agendas, and the self-interests of global powers. It’s crucial for us, the common people, to understand these dynamics.

War: A Disaster for Any Nation, Especially for a Country Like India

War brings no good to any nation, and for a developing country like India, it’s an absolute disaster. Every citizen, in any country, wants safety for themselves, their family, and their property. But war inevitably leads to massive loss of life and property. History makes this abundantly clear to anyone who studies it.

In a country like India, where challenges like poverty, education, and healthcare still loom large, war would only worsen these issues. The cost of war runs into billions of rupees—money that could be spent on development but instead gets diverted to military efforts. Moreover, war causes people to lose their lives and livelihoods, leaving long-term scars on the nation.

A Strong Military: A Shield to Prevent War

India is a formidable military power, and this strength acts as a solid shield for the nation! Governments often have to prioritize military spending, even at the cost of development and welfare programs. Why? Because the stronger we are, the more our adversaries will think twice before starting a war.

For a sovereign nation like India, this is even more critical! We face both internal and external threats. However, the defense budget often gets mired in allegations of corruption. That’s why India always seeks diplomatic solutions to avoid conflict, never truly desiring a full-scale war.

Pakistan: Its History, Ideology, and the Danger It Poses

Our neighboring country, Pakistan, is a different story. Its very creation in 1947 was based on a unique and strange reason—religion. It was formed under the belief that Hindus in India would oppress Muslims, splitting the nation into two parts on either side of India. But this idea was proven false when Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, showing the world that religion alone cannot unite a nation. People prioritize safety, economic stability, and basic needs over religious identity.

Pakistan’s Core Problem: No Democracy, Only Military Rule

In Pakistan, democracy exists only in name. The real power lies with the military. Elected governments are mere puppets, following the military’s orders. For seven decades, Pakistan’s rulers have brainwashed or intimidated their people into believing lies, fostering hatred toward India. The military exploits this hatred for its own political gain.

Pakistan’s Strategic Location: Why It Gets International Support

Pakistan’s geographical location makes it a critical player on the global stage. It acts as a bridge between Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. This is why countries like the U.S., China, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and their allies continue to support Pakistan, even when it’s in trouble. They provide billions of dollars and weapons, ensuring Pakistan’s interests are protected.

For example, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a major project tying China and Pakistan together. The U.S. has also used Pakistan in the past, such as during the Afghanistan war. This international support ensures that Pakistan faces little consequence for its actions on the global stage.

India’s Restraint: Why It Avoids Full-Scale War

India is well aware of these global dynamics. International politics is a delicate and complex web, with many intertwined factors at play. That’s why India always exercises restraint.

A war with Pakistan wouldn’t just be against Pakistan—it *would mean indirectly confronting nations like China and the U.S., who back Pakistan*. This is why India chooses diplomacy over war, seeking peaceful resolutions whenever possible.

The Pehalgam Attack: The International Politics Behind It

Let’s take a closer look at what led to the Pehalgam attack.

After the Trump administration came to power in the U.S., China anticipated a trade war with America. It also saw India as a major rival in Asia. To counter this, China first extended a hand of friendship to India. But India, recognizing the benefits of aligning with the U.S., didn’t commit to China’s proposal.

Frustrated, China provoked Pakistan to act against India, leading to the Pehalgam attack. This incident was a direct result of the trade rivalry between China and the U.S., as well as China’s desire to curb India’s growing influence in Asia.

India’s Response: Targeted Strikes, Not Full War

Despite the Pehalgam attack, India showed immense restraint and did not declare war on Pakistan. Instead, it conducted targeted strikes on terrorist camps inside Pakistan’s territory, focusing on the terrorists, not the Pakistani people. Why?

Because a full-scale war would trap India between Pakistan on one side and China on the other. Moreover, with a China- and Pakistan-backed government now in Bangladesh, there’s a risk of an attack from that front too. A multi-front war would be extremely dangerous for India.

Pakistan’s Political Gain: Portraying India as the Villain

India’s targeted strikes gave Pakistan’s leaders an opportunity to distract their people from their own corrupt and inefficient governance. By portraying India as the enemy, they stirred fear and hatred among their citizens, diverting attention from their failures. This is a tactic Pakistan’s rulers have used time and again.

The Ceasefire: The Role of China and the U.S.

China, aiming to protect its trade interests, once again backed Pakistan. Seeing this, the U.S. stepped in to counter China’s influence, pressuring both India and Pakistan to announce a ceasefire.

In this ceasefire, both China and the U.S. acted in their own interests. China supported Pakistan to keep pressure on India, while the U.S. pushed for the ceasefire to limit China’s growing influence in the region. However, the terms of the ceasefire were not entirely favorable to India.

Why Indians Are Unhappy: The Ceasefire Didn’t Sit Well

This ceasefire left Indians deeply dissatisfied. It’s not new for a global superpower to intervene when India has the upper hand in a conflict. But this time, the announcement blatantly favored Pakistan, which frustrated many.

It’s an open secret that the U.S. acted in Pakistan’s favor during this ceasefire. Treating India and Pakistan as equals, meddling in the Kashmir issue, and offering trade deals that benefit Pakistan—these moves upset Indians. India is a strong, independent nation, yet being equated with Pakistan felt like an insult to many.

The U.S. Decision: Impact on Indian Immigrants

Adding to the frustration, the U.S. recently imposed a 5% tax on overseas money transfers—coincidence or not? This affects around 4.5 million Indian immigrants who send money back home. For every lakh they transfer, they now pay an extra 5,000 rupees in taxes, which might discourage them from sending money.

This could impact India’s economy, particularly sectors like real estate and industrial investments. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it’s yet another economic challenge for India.

U.S.-Pakistan Ties: A Loss for India

The long-standing friendship between the U.S. and Pakistan consistently puts India at a disadvantage—a harsh reality we cannot ignore. The U.S. supports Pakistan for its own geopolitical and strategic interests, often leaving India to bear the consequences.

Social Media Patriots: War Fever and Disappointment

The real problem arises with social media “patriots” who are far removed from the border and don’t grasp the complexities of the situation. They don’t care about the consequences of war or the losses it brings. Fueled by emotion, they demand that Pakistan be crushed and that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) be reclaimed, stirring up frenzy.

Others, seeing this, join in with even more fervor, adding fuel to the fire. But when peace proposals are announced, they’re overcome with disappointment and lash out at the government for not meeting their expectations. Controlling this emotional outpouring has become a massive burden for the government.

This frenzy stems from a lack of understanding of war’s true cost. Such unchecked emotions only add pressure on the government.

 Pakistan: A Rogue Nation

There are some hard truths about Pakistan that people need to know. Pakistan is a rogue nation—its own government actively supports terrorism. This is a fact known to everyone, including global superpowers. Yet, for their own interests, these powers continue to nurture this snake in their backyard. They know that one day this snake might turn on them, but they foolishly keep supporting it.

• Our Duty: Faith in Dharma and Patience

It’s clear where justice and righteousness stand in this situation. In times of such moral dilemmas, we, the people, must act with patience and hold firm to our belief in dharma.

Because, in the end, dharma always prevails. The divine never sides with injustice. Our ancient scriptures teach us that even great figures like Bhishma, Drona, and Karna, who supported adharma, met their downfall.

As the Bhagavad Gita says, “Whenever there is a decline in righteousness, I manifest myself to restore dharma.” The divine will surely act to eradicate adharma and re-establish righteousness.

Our immediate duty is to stay committed to dharma, remain patient, and wait with faith.
