Can Indian cricketers truly become champions beyond cricket field

# Think Again: Can Indian Cricketers Truly Become Champions Beyond the Cricket Field?

THINK...

Sachin Tendulkar

Sourav Ganguly

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Virat Kohli

These names are etched in the hearts of millions. Their on-field achievements are legendary. Stadiums erupt when they walk in. They are brands, idols, and inspirations.

But here’s the question we must ask —

Are they also champions where it matters most — off the field?

Do they stand shoulder to shoulder with global athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi when it comes to philanthropy and global humanitarian work?

## What Global Icons Are Doing

Cristiano Ronaldo has donated millions to children’s hospitals, funded cancer treatments, and supports global relief through UNICEF and Save the Children.

Lionel Messi runs a foundation that builds schools, funds surgeries for sick children, and supports access to clean water.

These are not one-time gestures. They are lifelong missions, backed by transparency, sustainability, and passion.

## What Our Cricketing Icons Have Done

Yes, Indian cricketers have given back.

- Sachin Tendulkar has supported Apnalaya, adopted villages, and funded education and healthcare.

- Sourav Ganguly is known for low-profile donations and regional welfare work.

- MS Dhoni runs a charitable foundation and supports young athletes and the Indian Army.

- Virat Kohli through his foundation works for underprivileged youth and sports promotion.

But here’s the truth:

The scale, vision, and global reach of these initiatives often remain limited, underpublicized, and disconnected from larger societal transformation.

## Why the Gap?

Cricketers in India earn big. Endorsements. IPL contracts. Business ventures. But rarely does that translate into bold, transformative action that inspires millions to contribute or volunteer.

Where are the schools built in their names?

Where are the campaigns   against child marriages and teen pregnancies?

Where are the climate campaigns?

The hospital wings?

The permanent funds for the education of underprivileged girls?

The disaster relief units led by cricketers?

## Can Rich Indian Cricketers Think Like That?

They can.

They should.

They must.

Imagine if every IPL team set up a permanent endowment for healthcare or education.

Imagine if every celebrity cricketer pledged 1% of their net worth to create rural academies, skill centers, or mental health helplines.

Imagine if Indian cricketers spoke up for hunger, climate justice, or gender equality — not just as brand ambassadors but as conscious citizens

##Think Again

Beyond centuries and trophies, what will define our heroes?

When the stadium lights dim and records are broken, what remains is impact — how many lives were changed because a star decided to do more than shine?

We don’t just need cricketing legends.

We need compassionate leaders,

Public servants in private wealth,

Champions of change.

The real century is scored when lives are uplifted.

The real six is hit when hunger is defeated.

And the real match begins when the powerful play for the powerless.

Indian cricket has the wealth.

Does it have the will?
